Small-production, quality-oriented Spanish wine producer crafting top value Cava
Poema crafts high quality, small-production Cava in a sector of the Spanish wine industry that is dominated by large, volume-based producers. Poema carefully follows and exceeds the Cava DO’s stringent regulations and elaborate Champenoise method to craft its Brut, delicately sweet Extra Dry, sweet & balanced Dulce, and vibrant rosé, four exquisite and unique expressions of Cava.
The Penedès valley’s three regions offer perfect terroirs for growing the trio of indigenous grapes used to craft traditional Cava. The High Penedès (over 500 meters above sea level) is hilly with a chalky soil, ideal for the Parellada grape, while the limestone and clay soils of the coastal Low and Central (up to 500 meters above sea level) Penedès are excellent matches for the Macabeo and Xarel-lo grapes.
Poema proudly owns 72 acres of vineyards directly surrounding Subirats and Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, the village celebrated as the birthplace of Cava. In addition, 304 acres in four different areas are controlled through long-term programs with local farmers. The limestone-rich soils of Conca de Barberà, to the west, yield the Trepat grapes for Poema’s rosé.
